Broker Q&A, Part II

Edmiston brokers predict the big news and moves for the 2017 season.

Which Shipyards Will be Making Waves this Year?

Alex Koersvelt   "It has to be Oceanco, solid backing, excellent facilities and skilled workforce. The Dutch yard is an excellent choice for an innovative new build project. Heesen looks interesting this year."

Hannah Wolstenholme   "The launch of Cloudbreak from Abeking & Rasmussen signified a new direction for this German yard – definitely one to watch."

Simon Goldsworthy   "CRN – Their new 74m Cloud 9 is a step-up for them in quality terms. I also expect to see ISA/ Palumbo really establish themselves as a major competitor."

The New Toy?

Alex Koersvelt   "I think I will go old school for my new toy and say a fishing rod."

Hannah Wolstenholme   "The mini submarine – especially for an adventure cruise."

Simon Goldsworthy   "Proper aft deck swimming pools instead of (or as well as) a Jacuzzi."

Green Initiatives - Is it Happening?

Alex Koersvelt   "Yes, it is all there for you, if you want it we are ready."

Hannah Wolstenholme   "In the past 12 months I have noticed a number of yachts moving away from the use of plastic bottles. It’s a good start."

Simon Goldsworthy   "Slowly – the technology is getting better but unfortunately the up-front cost is still high. When the entry costs are on a par with traditional power sources it will be a nobrainer."
