5 reasons to charter a yacht in Greece this summer
Non-stop sunshine, myriad isles to explore and a nightlife scene to rival the Balearics, here’s why this summer you should embark on your own Greek odyssey
Greece is a charter destination offering infinite possibilities. As well as boasting the Mediterranean’s longest coastline, there are thousands of islands here, separated into little clusters that each hold their own appeal: the Ionian, Aegean, and Cyclades isles, to name a few.
With long, hot summer days and balmy evenings, Greece’s climate is a big bonus – averaging around 28ºC in July and August (though June and September are still very pleasant), you’ll be able to make the most of your sun deck and dine alfresco whenever the mood takes.
Plus, with warm seas, you’ll think nothing of diving off the swim platform whenever it takes your fancy. After more than a year of being at home, we know this sense of freedom is what you’ve been waiting for.
Here are our top five reasons to book a Greek charter this summer.
Greece is open to visitors
The Greek government has recently announced that it plans to reopen to visitors from 14 May with certain measures in place to ensure the continual safety of arrivals and residents.
Though you may be required to show a proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test and there will be some restrictions on the number of visitors to certain major attractions, onbroad your private sanctuary you’ll be able to enjoy a blissfully uninterrupted holiday.
The cruising potential is endless
With over 6,000 isles, you’ll never run out of ideas of where to go and what to do on your Greek yacht charter. You can anchor off a quiet isle for a few days of utter seclusion or explore ancient sites steeped in mythology.
Enjoy the old-world charm of the sugar-cube towns and villages as the sun dips below the horizon or moor at one of the livelier isles for a fun-filled evening under the stars.
It’s an outdoor playground
Greek summers are made for being outdoors, whether you want to try out the toys in your charter yacht’s garage in a hidden bay, jump in the tender for a beach picnic far from the tourist trail, or hike some of the interiors of the isles for a brush with nature, Greece has it all.
There is unique history to discover
The depth of antiquity still evident here is astounding and Classical and Roman Greece are still very much on show, with 18 World Heritage Sites to visit.
Spend a day or two in Athens where you can wander the Acropolis and the mega temple of the Parthenon. Must-do shoreside visits include Delos, the cradle of the gods, where you can walk amid antiquities of the Archaic through the Classical and the Hellenistic periods.
Its nightlife is unforgettable
The whitewashed buildings of Santorini, with their vibrant blue domes rising from the lip of a caldera like an offering to the gods, is the place to be seen and the restaurant Santoro offers some of the best sunsets in all the isles.
For hedonism with a luxury edge, head to Mykonos. Dance on the sand to the best DJs at Scorpios, Soho Roc House’s laid-back beach pad between Paraga and Kavos, or for a bit of high-end glamour, head to one of the legendary parties at Nammos.
