Edmiston arrives in Newport, Rhode Island
Edmiston is delighted to announce the expansion of its presence in the United States with the appointment of Bruce Brakenhoff, Jr, as Director of the newest Edmiston office in Newport, Rhode Island.
Bruce, the former Chairman of Perini Navi USA, will be joined by Dirk Johnson, Rana Johnson and Linda Janney who were all previously part of the Perini Navi USA team.
The news comes after a positive trading report from Edmiston. Despite a challenging six months for the superyacht and travel industry, Edmiston has performed well with multiple yacht sales and a strong charter season.
“The last six months have presented a number of unprecedented challenges for everyone in the yacht business, and in particular the early days of the Covid crisis were concerning. In spite of those challenges and concerns, it has been encouraging to see our team pull together and continue to perform well. The last six weeks in particular have seen us claw back our position in a very positive way”, says Chief Executive, Jamie Edmiston.
The new Edmiston office officially opens on the 1 September 2020 and will have divisions dedicated to charter and sales. The Newport office will be situated in the former Perini premises on Goat Island – the office Bruce has been working in since 1983, where he worked alongside his late father, the legendary Bruce Brakenhoff Sr. who ran his eponymous company Bartram & Brakenhoff with business partner Joe Bartram.
Bruce’s career has spanned almost 40 years, during which he has represented one of the most impressive client rosters of any broker, and been responsible for a long list of notable sales. The last 23 years has been spent building the Perini Navi office in USA.
The expansion in the US and appointment of the former Perini team is an exciting development for Edmiston. “The Brakenhoff family have been associated with the top end of yachting for three generations. Holding the same values as the Edmiston family, we are delighted to have Bruce and his team join us as an integral part of the business”, says Edmiston Chairman, Nicholas Edmiston.
Bruce joins Edmiston along with his Perini Navi colleagues; Dirk Johnson, who continues his role as sales broker, and Rana Johnson will work across retail and Central Agency charter. Linda Janney will be supporting both charter and sales.
The team expressed their enthusiasm by saying “We’re all flattered, excited and motivated to be adding almost 100 years of collective experience and perspective to the Edmiston Family – one of the most highly respected organisations in yachting, and a brand that is instantly recognisable.”
Edmiston Chief Executive Jamie Edmiston says: “I have known Bruce for a number of years and his legacy and that of his family is unquestionable. We have worked together on a number of deals over the years and I am delighted to welcome Bruce, Dirk, Rana and Linda to the Edmiston US team. I’m confident that working alongside Robert Shepherd and his team in New York will present a formidable proposition to yacht owners and charterers alike”.
Robert Shepherd, President of the Americas, concludes: “Edmiston's ongoing growth in the US has been very encouraging, and I am excited about continuing that success by working closely with Bruce and the team".
Edmiston has maintained a strong relationship with Perini Navi over the years, and the two companies will continue to work closely in the coming years.
Now with two offices in North America, and two in Mexico, Edmiston’s growing US presence allows them to maximise results to their US clients.
